| Note: SPF Records should be created as a TXT record, as servers only look at TXT records for SPF instructions. Any changes that you make to your Advanced DNS settings can interrupt your service. If you are not an advanced user, we strongly recommend that you not change these settings without consulting our support department. |
In this article we will cover the following:
What are SPF records?
An SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record is a type of TXT (Text) record added to your domain’s DNS settings. It helps protect your domain from email spoofing by telling receiving mail servers which sources are authorized to send email on behalf of your domain.
The way SPF Records work is when someone receives an email from your domain, their mail server checks your domain’s SPF record. If the sending server matches what’s listed in your SPF record, the email is more likely to be delivered successfully. If it doesn’t match, the email may be flagged as spam or rejected.
How to create/edit SPF record:
Although commonly referred to as an “SPF record,” SPF is not a standalone DNS record type. SPF is configured as a TXT record that contains SPF-specific syntax.
Because SPF is added as a TXT record, please follow the instructions outlined in this article when creating or updating your SPF configuration: What are TXT records and how do I edit/add them?
Rebel SPF Records:
If you are using Rebel's email and looking to prevent email spoofing, a TXT record can be applied to your domain so that only Rebel's mail servers are authorized to send mail on behalf of your domain.
If you use Cloud hosting:
SPF Record:
Host: @ (this will leave your host as your root domain name)
Record: "v=spf1 include:spf.cloudus.oxcs.net~all"
Neither DKIM nor DMARC is enabled on cloud hosting.
If you use Classic hosting:
SPF Record:
Host: @ (this will leave your host as your root domain name)
Record: "v=spf1 mx a include:relay.mailchannels.net ip4:54.236.124.210 ip4:54.208.1.230 -all"
DMARC Record:
Host:_dmarc
Record: "v=DMARC1; p=none"
Unfortunately, DKIM cannot be enabled on Classic hosting packages.
If you use Plesk hosting:
This option can be enabled by selecting "Use DKIM spam protection system to sign outgoing email messages " in the mail settings.
| Note: If your domain was already set to Park with Rebel, Forward Domain, or Host with Rebel, these records should take about 1 hour to propagate. If your domain was previously set to Use Third Party Hosting, updates can take up to 24-48 hours to propagate worldwide, though we find it's typically much closer to 6-12 hours. |
