The Problem
Clients often call in frustrated because they have added records for Shopify, iCloud, or Squarespace, but the "Verify" button on those platforms keeps failing.
The "1-to-4 Hour" Rule
While we quote 24–48 hours for "Full Global Propagation," most major verification services (like Apple, Google, and Shopify) use high-performance DNS resolvers.
Registry/Authoritative Update (0–5 Mins): When you hit "Save" in the Rebel dashboard, our nameservers are updated immediately.
The Validation Gap (1–4 Hours): Third-party services (Shopify/iCloud) query the DNS. If they recently queried it before the change, they have "cached" the old result based on the TTL (Time to Live).
Full Propagation (24+ Hours): This is only for smaller, local ISPs in remote areas to catch up.
The "Verification Loop" Strategy
When a client says "I entered the records but it won't verify," agents should follow this workflow:
Step 1: The 'Source of Truth' Check. Use DNSChecker.org to see if the Rebel nameservers are actually broadcasting the new record.
Step 2: Compare Values. Ensure the
CNAMEorTXTrecord exactly matches what the provider (Shopify/iCloud) requested.
-
Step 3: The 'Cooldown' Advice. If DNSChecker shows the correct value but the provider says "Fail," explain the Recursive Cache.
"Your records are live on our end, but [Shopify/Apple] is still looking at a 'cached' version of your old settings. This usually clears within 1 to 4 hours. Please wait 30 minutes before clicking Verify again to avoid resetting their retry timer."
Why this helps the Agent
It prevents unnecessary escalations.
It sets a realistic expectation (1–4 hours) instead of a scary one (24 hours).
