This article walks you through how to use Rebel’s DNS settings to point your domain to your website built with Shopify.
If you’d prefer to update your domain’s nameservers to Shopify instead, please see this article: How do I change the nameservers for my domain?
Step 1.
Log in to your Rebel account, select "Products" in the top left corner. In the top toolbar, you will see "Domains". Please select this.
Step 2.
For the domain you’d like to access DNS settings for, select “Manage” on the right-hand side.
Step 3.
In the upper left side, you will see the two words "Contacts", "DNS" and "Domain Options". Select the "DNS" tab.
Step 4.
Scroll down to "Manage Advanced DNS Records" and click on "Advanced DNS Manager" on the right-hand side.
If this section is not available, your domain may be set to Use Third Party Hosting with another provider's DNS. If this is the case, you will need to either make these changes in your DNS provider's account or park your domain on Rebel nameservers.
| Note: By changing your nameservers to park with Rebel, you may be disrupting any current DNS information, which could result in your website and/or email ceasing to function. Before making these changes, please ensure that you no longer require your current DNS information. |
Side Step:
To park your domain on Rebel DNS, please go to Domain Nameserver Information and from the dropdown menu choose "Park with Rebel (Default)".
Click "Save Changes" in this section.
Then you will be able to scroll down and find your Advanced DNS Settings by selecting the button.
Step 5.
To add an A record, click the button showing "Add Record" in the upper right.
Click the drop-down and set the Record Type as "A".
Enter the required details for the DNS record in the “Host” and “Points to” fields.
Host: Enter the subdomain or record name (for example, @ for the root domain or www for a www record).
Points to: Enter the destination value provided by your hosting or email provider. (This is most likely an IP number)
The TTL field can be left as the default if no information is provided.
Once all required information has been entered, select “Add Record” to save the DNS record.
Step 6.
To add a CNAME record, click the button showing "Add Record" in the upper right.
Click the drop-down and set the Record Type as "CNAME".
Enter the required details for the DNS record in the “Alias” and “Points to” fields.
Host: Enter the subdomain or record name (for example, @ for the root domain or www for a www record).
Points to: Enter the destination value provided by your hosting or email provider.
The TTL field can be left as the default if no information is provided.
Once all required information has been entered, select “Add Record” to save the DNS record.
If your domain was already set to Park with Rebel, Forward Domain, or Host with Rebel, these records should take about 1 hour to propagate. If your domain was previously set to Use Third Party Hosting, updates can take up to 24-48 hours to propagate worldwide, though we find it's typically much closer to 6-12 hours.
| Note: Sometimes other DNS records can conflict with the new ones you entered. Please feel free to contact our support team to determine if there are conflicting records which should be removed. |
