Valid Characters:
For .COM, .BIZ, .INFO, .NAME, .NET, and .ORG domain names, ICANN allows only the following characters:
-
Letters: a–z (no accents or special characters).
Note: Domain names are not case-sensitive, so “Example.com” is the same as “example.com.” -
Numbers: 0–9.
-
Hyphen (-): allowed, but cannot appear at the beginning or end of a domain name.
Invalid characters (not allowed):
-
Spaces: domain names must be continuous with no spaces.
-
Underscores (_): not permitted in domain names.
-
Symbols: *, &, @, !, %, $ or similar characters are not accepted.
International characters
Some country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) support internationalized domain names (IDNs), which may include accented letters or non-Latin scripts (e.g., é, ü, ñ, or characters in languages such as Arabic, Chinese, or Cyrillic). Availability depends on the specific ccTLD registry’s rules.
