What is the Redemption Grace Period:
The Redemption Grace Period (RGP) is a status a domain enters after it has expired and been removed from active service.
During this time, the domain is no longer functioning (your website and email will not work), but it can still be restored by the current registrant. Restoring a domain in RGP requires paying the standard renewal fee plus an additional redemption or administrative fee set by the domain’s registry.
The Redemption Grace Period typically lasts around 30 days, though the exact timeframe can vary depending on the domain extension.
Timeline:
After your domain expires, it enters a few different stages:
Expiry Period: lasts about 40 days.
Redemption Grace Period (RGP): lasts about 30 days.
Pending Deletion: a 5-day window where the domain is locked before being released back to the public. During this time, it cannot be recovered.
That means there are up to 70 days after expiry to recover your domain. When a domain is in RGP, it is still recoverable, but with a higher recovery fee set by the registry.
How to Recover an RGP Domain:
Before you begin, make sure your payment information is up to date in your Payment Settings.
Step 1.
Log in to your Rebel account, then select "Products" in the top-left corner. In the top toolbar, you will see "Domains”. Please select this.
Step 2.
In your list of domains, you’ll see one marked Redemption Grace Period in the Status column. To the right of the expiry date, select the "Recover Now" button.
Step 3.
A pop-up will appear displaying the renewal price, along with the additional administrative fee required by the registry of the TLD your domain is registered under. Click “Proceed” to be taken to your cart, where you can complete your order.
Step 4.
After you’ve placed the order, you must contact our Customer Experience team so we can manually complete the recovery for you at the registry.
