What happens if my domain expires?
Domains have lifecycles, which outline the different stages they go through after registration. Here is the typical lifecycle a domain follows:
-
When your domain expires, it enters Expiry Status for about 40 days.
-
After that, it moves into the Redemption Grace Period (RGP), which follows the registry’s domain lifecycle.
-
Once RGP ends, the domain enters Pending Deletion. At this point, it’s released back to the registry and becomes available for public registration within a 2-5 day period.
Can I recover my domain?
-
Yes. You can recover your domain while it’s in Expiry Status or RGP. Once your domain is in pending deletion, you are not able to recover it.
- For more details on how to recover your domain in expiry status, please follow: How do I recover an expired domain?
-
Please note: recovery during RGP comes with a higher cost, which varies depending on the domain extension (TLD). For more details, see this FAQ: How do I recover my domain if it is in RGP status?
