Registry Lookup: Verisign Registry WHOIS
Status Meanings: ICANN EPP Status Codes
Common Scenarios
1. A client is complaining about their domain not transferring IN after 5 days. (In Rebel)
If a .com transfer has been "In Progress" for more than 5 days, it is likely stuck at the Losing Registrar.
Action: Check the Verisign Registry WHOIS.
If Status =
pendingTransfer: The transfer is active. Tell the client to contact the old registrar and ask them to "Expedite" or "Release" the domain manually. Once they do, it will move to Rebel instantly.
2. A client wants to transfer OUT (Away from Rebel) faster
By default, ICANN allows a 5-day window for the losing registrar to verify a transfer. While this wait is standard, we can manually bypass the remaining time if the transfer is already active.
When to act: Only once the domain status shows as
pendingTransferat the Registry level (Verisign).Action: Search the domain in the Staff-Side Portal.
Fix: Click the "Expedite Transfer" button.
The Result: This sends an immediate "ACK" (Acknowledgement) to the registry. You should see a green checkmark. This signals the registry to release the domain to the new registrar immediately, potentially saving the client several days of waiting.
