.UK Transfer In Procedure
When a client wants to transfer a UK domain in from another registrar the process is very different when compared to most other domain transfers.
The client will likely begin by wanting our “IPS tag”.
They’re not incorrect in asking for the tag, however giving it to them is actually the last step of the process.
In order to begin the transfer the client will need to create a transfer at Rebel (just like they would do for almost any other TLD) and the purpose of this is simply to create some kind of record of the domain within our system. During the process of requesting the transfer the client will be prompted to submit an “auth code” - even though UK domains don’t actually use them. Tell the client to just enter anything they’d like into the auth code field.
The client then needs to declare to us what the domain contacts should be (for the domain’s registrant, administrative, and technical contacts), as well as the DNS we should point the domain at. We might require even more information from the client (especially if the registrant is a company rather than a person) but having them declare the domain contacts and DNS is the first step.
The next step means contacting a supervisor, providing us with the domain the client wants to transfer in, and the contact details and DNS that you’ve collected from the client.
The supervisor will then log into OpenProvider (our UK provider) and setup the transfer in their system. By the way, never mention “OpenProvider” to the client. If you for any reason must mention the fact that we use a provider for UK domains just use terms like “our UK partner”. The reason why we must setup the transfer at OpenProvider is because if we don’t do that first then OpenProvider will simply automatically decline the IPS tag change when the client attempts to change it.
Once a supervisor has setup the transfer at OpenProvider then we can supply the client with the IPS tag, which is: REGISTRAR-EU
