Who can register a .COOP domain?
.COOP domains are not open to the general public. Only organizations that align with cooperative principles are eligible.
To qualify, registrants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be a cooperative established under applicable local laws
- Be a member of the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA)
- Be a member of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA)
- Be an association made up of cooperatives
- Be an organization committed to the seven cooperative principles
- Be majority-controlled by cooperatives
- Primarily serve cooperatives through their operations
Individuals are not eligible to register .COOP domains.
Verification requirements
All .COOP domain registrations must be verified.
After registering, you’ll receive an email from dotCOOP requesting documentation to confirm eligibility. Your domain will remain inactive until verification is complete.
If eligibility cannot be confirmed, the registration may be denied and fees are typically non-refundable.
