As required by CIRA, the official registry for .CA domains, every .CA domain is placed under a 60-day lock period after certain actions. During this time, the domain cannot be transferred to another registrar or have its ownership (registrant) changed.
This 60-day lock is applied whenever:
-
A new .CA domain is registered
-
A .CA domain is transferred to a new registrar
-
The registrant (ownership) contact information is updated
This policy is designed to protect domain owners from unauthorized transfers and potential fraud. Once the 60 days have passed from the date of the registration, transfer, or ownership change, you’ll be able to proceed with transferring the domain or updating the registrant information.
