Overview
When registering or manually renewing a domain name, you may see an initial price estimate. If the total price displayed in your Cart Summary at checkout differs from the initial price shown, this is usually caused by optional service add-ons or security protections attached to the order.
Step 1: Check Your Cart for Optional Add-Ons
Depending on whether you are registering a new domain or manually renewing an existing domain, follow the steps below to check for and remove unwanted add-ons:
A. For Initial Domain Registrations
If you are purchasing a brand-new domain name, review the line items in your cart to see if additional services were selected during checkout:
Optional Add-Ons: Domain Privacy / WHOIS Protection, Email Hosting trials, SSL Certificates, or web security bundles, etc.
Registration Term: The cart defaulting to a multi-year term (e.g., 2 or 3 years) instead of a 1-year registration.
Action: Simply remove the unwanted add-on items or adjust the registration term directly in your cart summary. The total price will update automatically.
B. For Manual Domain Renewals
If you are manually renewing an existing domain name already in your account, optional security protections attached to the domain may automatically populate in your cart.
Action: Pause the checkout process and remove the protections directly from your domain settings before completing the renewal:
Log in to your account.
Select Products from the menu, then click Manage beside the domain in question.
Select Domain Options from the top toolbar.
You will see a list of active or available protections. Hover over the protection you wish to remove and click the X that appears to remove it.
Clear from Cart: Once disabled in your domain settings, return to your cart summary and ensure the protection line item is also removed from your cart so the total price updates properly.
Important Note on Ownership Protection: If you wish to remove Ownership Protection, this cannot be removed by self-service in the control panel. You will need to contact our support team to assist with removing this specific protection.
Step 2: Contact Live Support (No Add-Ons Selected)
If you have reviewed your cart, confirmed that no extra add-ons, security packages, or multi-year terms are selected, and the price still does not match what was originally quoted, this points to a system display or pricing sync glitch.
Because billing adjustments require account verification, this cannot be fixed through self-service settings.
Pause Your Purchase: Keep the domain in your cart, but do not complete checkout yet.
Contact Live Support: Connect directly with a Live Agent via chat or phone call.
Provide Details: Let the agent know:
The domain name you are trying to register or renew.
The initial price displayed on the domain search page or renewal summary.
The price currently showing in your cart summary (with no add-ons selected).
Specialist Resolution: A live specialist/agent will inspect the pricing rules, resolve any system glitches, and ensure you are charged the correct rate.
